What are your teeth made of?

Heads, shoulders, knees, and…teeth!

Did you know your teeth have their own anatomy? Just like your body is made of of bones and muscles and tissues, your teeth have their own parts that make them the pearly white smile you see in the mirror.

Your teeth have four main components:

  • Enamel
  • Dentin
  • Pulp
  • and the Root

Enamel is the hard, outer portion of the tooth. And in fact, is the hardest material on the human body!

Dentin makes up the main portion of the tooth in the inner layer. It is the largest dental tissue.

Important for forming Dentin is Pulp, the soft tissue on the inside of the tooth. Pulp contains the nerve, blood supply that your teeth need.

The Root is what secures your teeth to your jaw bone, connecting everything together!

Even though we can’t see inside, every part of the tooth is working together to keep your chompers healthy. Taking care of your teeth every day is the best way to make sure your teeth stay as strong as you are.

Download our kids coloring pages to teach them more about their teeth. Bring in their finished masterpiece and we will display it on our Wall of Teeth in our office!
