The Wildlife Images Rehabilitation and Education Center offers tours year-round that you and your family can check out. You’ll get to see bears, wolves, eagles and other animals as you tour the grounds. About 80% of the sick, injured and orphaned animals the center cares for end up released into the wild! It’s a great place for kids to learn about different animals and see how they are cared for.
There are plenty of amazing city parks to check out if you feel like being outdoors in the sunshine! Riverside Park, on the banks of the Rogue across from downtown has a sports field, art center, rose garden and large playground for kids. All Sports Park has playgrounds, hiking trails, fishing ponds and plenty of sports facilities. If you are looking for a nature trail, head to Tom Pearce Park where you can also find horseshoe pits, a creek, picnic tables and outdoor cooking facilities. Make sure to stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks in the shade while you’re out exploring!
The Rogue River offers a beautiful outdoor oasis for families to enjoy! You can rent inflatable kayaks or a raft and float down the river from Grants Pass. Or you can drive about 15 miles to Merlin and paddle through the canyons on a guided tour with the kids. Make sure to wear life preservers and follow all of the guidelines to ensure that you and your kids stay safe – the rapids can get rocky!
Redwood National Park contains the tallest living things on earth! The evergreen trees grow to 350 feet tall. The park was established to protect these trees because it is only in Oregon that trees this tall have survived!
